Citadel Hill - After the firing the noon gun
ShipYard
Today is a day to visit some of Carol-Ann’s previous work colleagues. First we need to pay the $1.25 bridge toll to cross the bridge from Dartmouth to Halifax. Dropped off at the Halifax office for a 1 hour 15 minute visit. Great to catch up with a couple of colleagues, some having met in person before and others for the first time. Nice to put a face to the name. Glorious views of the Halifax Harbour from the 15th floor.
After being picked up, we are headed towards the Citadel Hill as we want to see/hear the daily firing of the noon gun. As we make our way up the hill in our vehicle we were told to stop and park as we could not pass until the firing was complete. We looked up and there it was happening right above us. We could not have asked for a better seat. Although we knew the firing was going to happen, it still didn’t stop Carol-Ann from being completely startled by the loud bang and a few choice words “$&@?” out of her mouth. Obviously an automatic reaction.
We then drove and parked downtown Halifax. Note: A lot of construction happening and detours in place. We stopped to take a very brief look at the Casino and left with some Halifax money. We then walked the boardwalk along the water. It was great to see so many chairs for folks to sit, relax and enjoy the view. They were definitely being used on this overcast day. We went to the “Salt + Ash Beach House” for a light lunch. Unfortunately, the “chicken bites” recommended by a colleague are only served at supper time. We opted for the “Brothers Meats Pepperoni Plus - Beach House Pizza” cooked in a wood fire oven. It hit the spot. Low and behold right next door is a “Cows Creamery” location. If you have not figured out by now, you know we love ice cream and have fallen in love with the “Cows Creamery”. Good thing they don’t have a store in Ottawa.
We continued to drive around Halifax, the shipyards and made our way out of city towards Bedford and then Hammonds Plains as we were having supper with a previous colleague and her husband. We had a wonderful evening with lots of laughs and great food. So nice to catch up with previous colleagues in the East Coast. We even got some directions / short cuts back to the hotel and did not get lost!
