Torbay (St.John’s) / 10:30 a.m. / 5 degrees) to St. John’s, Newfoundland / 10:50 a.m. / (5 degrees) for a total of 20 km driving.  It is a rainy day today.

We are staying with friends of Carol-Ann’s dad, Albert who live in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  They had all met back in Destin, Florida back in 2010.  An invitation had been extended for Perry and I to visit if we were ever in town and here we are. 😀

They took us for a lovely drive around St. John’s.  Although it was raining, it was still a great tour.  We went to Cape Spear and Signal Hill National Historic Site.  We were limited on what we could see due to weather but can say we were there.

Back to their place for supper before we got ready to head out for Perry & Carol-Ann’s 7:00 p.m. “Screech-In” ceremony at Christian’s Pub, 23 George Steeet, St. John’s, Newfoundland.  For those not familiar with the “Screech-In” ceremony, it is an initiation of sorts / welcoming us to their unique corner of Canada.  The ceremony involves flambé bologna (Newfie steak), a shot of Screech rum and a close encounter with a codfish, a personalized certificate and a photo opportunity with Skipper Lukey, who performs the ceremony.  We were being initiated along with 33 other people, some from Canada as well as other areas in the world including Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Amsterdam.  What a great time we had.  The ceremony lasted about 30-45 minutes.  Anyone travelling to St. John’s for the first time, we would recommend doing this.  Well worth the cost.
