Fortune, Newfoundland / 10:40 a.m. / 10 degrees to Clarenville, Newfoundland / 4:25 p.m. / 11 degrees for a total of 291.1 km driven.
The day started out clear, sunny and coolish in St. Pierre at 6:30 a.m. Carol-Ann walked to the nearby bakery to pick up breakfast. A delicious tomato quiche and some fresh croissants. After eating in our hotel room, we packed up and headed towards the ferry terminal. Note: The couple from Fermont, Quebec ate the continental breakfast at the hotel restaurant “Le Buddy”. It included fresh croissant & baguette with butter and jam as well as yogurt. It also came with juice and coffee/tea. They said it was delicious. Approximately $10 Euros.
On our way to the ferry terminal we were looking to see where we could mail our 3 postcards as the lady from the store where we bought them said we could mail them even with the post office closed. Check the pictures below to see why we missed the drop off. Thankfully someone in the ferry terminal pointed the location out.
It looks like we may have more passengers and vehicles today (approximately 50). The same crew remembered us from the day before. We took our Bonine tablets (seasickness tablets only available for purchase in the U.S.). The ferry ride was smoother than the day before. The captain announced that a pod of whales were visable in the distance. This was an added bonus.
Our shuttle bus driver was waiting for us and so was our vehicle. Woohoo! We finished the other side of the loop (pot holes included) including Saint Lawrence before arriving back in Marystown. Great little town with a touch of everything. We stopped at Sobey’s to replenish our grocery items we travel with. Picked up a pre-made Cobb salad for each of us which we ate in the truck, then Tim Hortons coffee before continuing on our journey. P.S. Check out the pictures below for Perry’s new hood ornament. 😂
Once we got to Clarenville, we decided to stop at
The Quality Inn on the Trans Canada Highway for the night. We loved that we got another hotel with the door access right out front and easy access to our vehicle. We had picked up a cooked chicken in Marystown, then cooked potatoes and warmed a can of corn in our hotel microwave and had a delicious but simple supper in our room. The only comment is that the room had 2 double beds. We have been spoiled over the years with a bigger bed. This bed size appears to be common in Newfoundland. The bed, pillows and blankets were very good. Nice addition that they provide a night light in the bathroom. Great front desk staff. We would stay here again.
